*Lucerne*
Also known as Alfalfa, Lucerne is called the Queen of Fodder, and for good reason.
Lucene is a legume fodder crop rich in Protein (18-22%CP), Vitamin A, and Calcium. Lucerne Grows in a wide range of soils, with preference to well drained fertile soils, of PH 5.5 - 6.5.

Planting
Land should be properly disced, and free from clods, to ensure a fine tilth seedbed. Lucerne seed can be planted in shallow furrows 2cm deep, 25 - 30cm apart, seed rate is 15 to 25kg per hectare. Adequate moisture should be supplied during the first 1 to 2 weeks to guarantee even germination.

Yield
Depending on Crop management Lucerne should be ready from 3 months after planting. Lucerne should be cut from 5 to 7cm high, to protect its crown. Total yield per year is 12 to 20 tonnes per hectare, from 6 cuts giving 2 to 4 tonnes per cut.

Feeding
Lucerne is best fed as Hay mixed with a grass to avoid bloating. It can also be made into a meal or pellets. It can be fed to Cattle, Horses, Goats, Sheep, Rabbits, Chicken forage and Pig feed formulations.
